Austin Energy Plans to Install Solar at Community Sites
Austin Energy will procure up to 2 MW of solar modules over a 3-year period, at a cost of $1.85/watt, and plans to install solar at buildings in its service territory. The panels are expected to generate 2.7 million kWh annually. Becker Underwood Purchases 7.9 Mil. kWh of Green Power Becker Underwood purchased 7.9 million kWh of wind RECs, equivalent to 100 percent of its electricity use. The Green-e certified RECs were supplied by Renewable Choice Energy. CRS Updates Green-e Energy National Standard The Center for Resource Solutions has updated the Green-e Energy National Standard, the Standard defines eligibility and requirements for Green-e Energy Certified Projects. The majority of changes will go into effect July 15, 2011. City of Dallas Purchases 40% Wind Product; Saves Money The City of Dallas signed a contact with TXU to purchase 2.2 billion kWh of power over three years, of which 40% will be from wind power generated in Texas. Constellation Energy Offers New 100% Wind Product Constellation Energy is now offering CleanEnergy, a 100% wind product, to residential customers in central Maryland. Customers can add the wind option for an additional 1-cent/kWh. The product is sourced from Green-e certified RECs. Deadline Approaching to Retire Voluntary Purchases New Hampshire, New Jersey Most RGGI states have established a process to set aside emission allowances for voluntary purchases of renewable energy. Requirements differ by state, and two states, New Hampshire and New Jersey, require claims to be filed by July 30th. EPA Releases Top 50 Green Power Purchasers EPA Green Power Partnership has released its latest list of top green power purchasers. Retaining their places at the top of the list were Intel, Kohl's, Whole Foods Market, City of Houston, and Dell. Google Signs 20-Year Contract for Output of Iowa Wind Farm Google has purchased the total output of NextEra Energy Resources's 114-megawatt Story County II facility in Iowa through a 20 year power purchase agreement for $38.8 million. Holy Cross Energy Launches 80 kW Community Solar Program Holy Cross Energy broke ground on an 80 kW solar array in El Jebel, Colorado. Customers can purchase shares (watts) of the solar array upfront at a cost of $3.15/watt. Community owners will receive a credit each month of $0.11 per kWh. Marin Energy Authority Purchases 25% Green Power Marin Energy Authority is purchasing more than 42 million kWh annually, enough to meet 25 percent of electricity use for its communities in Marin County. The purchase is of biogas, biomass, and wind through Shell Energy North America. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Purchases 100% Wind for Research Center Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's Zuckerman Research Center purchased 31.5 million kWh of wind RECs, equivalent to 100 percent of the building's annual electricity use, through Green Mountain Energy. The Fairmont Hotel in D.C. Purchases 9.5 Million kWh of Wind The Fairmont Washington, D.C. hotel has purchased 9.5 million kWh of RECs, representing 100% of the hotel's electricity use. The wind RECs are being supplied by Renewable Choice Energy. Viridian Energy Offers Pure Green in PJM, Conn. Regions Viridian Energy announced its Pure Green, a locally sourced 100% renewable electricity option available in Viridian's service territory, including PA, CT, NJ and MD, and will initially be offered at a discount to the local utility's generation rates. Western Climate Initiative Releases Comprehensive Program Design The Western Climate Initiative released a comprehensive program design, which includes recommendations regarding voluntary purchases and the role of RECs. WCI has a goal to reduce 2005 GHG emissions by 15 percent by 2020. The WCI program design recommends that RECs have no compliance role in the WCI cap-and-trade program. Santa Clara Top 'Green' Power Community in U.S. The city of Santa Clara has secured the top spot in the EPA Green Power Communities rankings with more than 163 million kWh of the community's electricity usage coming from voluntary purchases of green power. |
